Our 2009 New York City Staycation

Here something I decided to try out back in March of 2009, during my birthday week. Before I even knew the term existed, I was already Practicing Staycationing. I took 8 days off from work to test out my new camera equipment and spend time with my son. It was a great success and felt adventurous.
Me and my wife knew that our funds weren’t going to be enough to jump on a plane to travel, so we planned to vacation in New York City or should I say Staycation. Ive always known how rich New York City is. Growing up I would just wander the city and discover the cool things there was to do. If theres something you want to do, New York probably has it, thats whats so cool. Me and my wifes philosophy was to just make sure we were dead tired everyday. We would avoid staying home and made sure we were out being somehow active. As you can see from the calender below, we did a pretty good job of keeping busy.
Basically, there just is no limit to having fun and being active. Yes I know these are things people say (or just say), but for the people who really know me and my wife, know that we truly embody this and our attempt is to rub it off on as many people as possible and if that doesn’t work then we kidnap you.

The Glory
No, not the champion, that Kanye song would be too specific to one person. The glory is the single breath of air we all took in that room at exactly the same time. There we were all convinced that this was glorious. Without the alcohol and with out the drugs, that a group of young adults could feel the genuine high of Fun. The drug is Glory. A man who entered the tournament on April 4th 2009 and embarrassed the entire competition by not losing a single battle (not even in practice!), was responsible for the climatic response from everyone at once, when David finally beat him. Coffie. It is amazing that Coffie could have put up such an inspiring performance on April 4th 2009, but on June 6th 2009 he couldn’t pay to have a loyalist or lobbyist. I believe that Coffie had a hard time getting any company to endorse him (although I read that el mundo came close to signing with him) because of the opposition he had stacked in those 2 months. And all this leading up to the 4 low punches and single sweep that David delivered with Guile to finish the battle that took the air out of the room. Yes David was glorious, but we all shared in it with that single breath we took, and we didn’t even have to pass it around.
*Inspired by Yasser and my mom Senovia
*Coffie is the 1st player on the left, David 2nd player on the right
Coffie started the video up 3 fights to 2, only needing 1 fight to secure the championship. David needing 2.
That was my favorite part of the day and I continuously watch that end scene on my PSP. I love it.
Congratulations to Coffie and David
Thanks to Merline my wife for being an amazing host, Howard for helping with the delicious food, Manny for tracking the battle wins/loses, Omar for watching the grill when I couldn’t and Emily for the great camera work.
Shout out to Wilmer and Jehan who couldn’t be there, because the next day they welcomed into the world a beautiful baby girl, Farrah.
David and Emily, lets make it happen in your crib in August.
